CTCB to showcase classical and contemporary ballet
Cape Town City Ballet continues its highly successful 80th anniversary celebrations in July with an exciting and varied programme called Ballet Beautiful. From 4 to 12 July, Cape Town audiences will be able to enjoy the classical beauty of Marius Petipa’s exquisite Paquita, as well as experiencing the world premieres of two new ballets by young South African choreographers, Kirsten Isenberg and Yarisha Singh. A new pas de deux by Robin van Wyk will also be presented.

Song & Dance in Festival of Fame double-bill
Dance Spectrum and Freedom Songs play as a compelling Double Bill during the National School of the Arts’ Festival of Fame from 26 February to 2 March. Showcasing the fine emerging talent of the music and drama departments, the Double Bill takes to the Mandela Stage on Friday 28 February at 7:30pm and on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 at 11:00am.Both programmes can also be seen as stand-alone productions on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 February. Dance Spectrum will play on the majestic Mandela stage while Freedom Songs will find a home in the more intimate Fringe at Joburg Theatre.

Sheila Camerer appointed as patron of Cape Town City Ballet

On the eve of Cape Town City Ballet opening with The Firebird and Les Sylphides at Maynardville Open-Air Theatre, well-known public figure Sheila Camerer has been appointed as Patron of the company for the duration of its 80th Anniversary this year. The announcement was made at a reception held at the University of Cape Town’s School of Dance on Friday 17 January.
