World ballet stars announced for International Ballet Galas to honour Alicia Alonso
The names of the ballet stars have been announced for the five galas at the Teatro, Montecasino to honour the legendary Alicia Alonso on 28, 29 and 30 June.  Six principal dancers from the National Ballet of Cuba will be joined by dancers from other major ballet companies, representing a gathering of acclaimed stars and gold medallists from some of the world’s great international ballet competitions.

The Fourth Cape Town International Ballet Competition (CTIBC) will take place at the Artscape in Cape Town in February 2014. CEO of the Cape Town International Ballet Competition (CTIBC), Dirk Badenhorst, has announced that the fourth CTIBC takes place from 17 to 23 February 2014 at the Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town.

Africa’s only international ballet competition, the CTIBC was launched in 2008 with subsequent competitions in 2010 and 2012 attracting dancers from South Africa and around the world to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals as well as substantial monetary prizes.

Dance Umbrella, rather romantically, came into being on Valentine’s Day in 1989. It began as the result of an idea of two respected arts journalists, Adrienne Sichel and Marilyn Jenkins, who felt that there needed to be a ‘platform’ for contemporary dance in the country.  Now, 25 years on, Dance Umbrella has expanded enormously and has developed into one of the main platforms for new contemporary choreography and dance in Southern Africa.
